Nearby Nature Experiences for Human Health and Wellness – What Do We Know?

March 29, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

$5

Dr. Kathleen Wolf is a research social scientist with the University of Washington’s College of the Environment in Seattle, and has a joint appointment with the US Forest Service Pacific NW Research Station. Dr. Wolf is a nationally recognized expert in the field of urban forestry and greening and the co-benefits of green infrastructure.

People have intuitively recognized the benefits of spending time in nature. A surge of research in recent years has helped us to better understand a wide range of positive responses, including reduced stress and depression, faster healing in hospitals, reduced crime, and improved worker performance. Dr. Kathleen Wolf will present an overview of the research, highlighting the importance of having nearby nature for everyone in the city. She will also present ideas for practical programs that can integrate nature experience and better human health.

$5 registration. This lecture takes place in the Rare Book Room on the Museum’s upper level. Registration for this lecture does not include general admission to the Museum.
